August 14, 2018 – 3,000 paddlefish were recently released into Caddo Lake (1,500 at the State Park and 1,500 at the National Wildlife Refuge.) This is the 2nd in a series of 3 releases this month, part of the first official re-stocking of these prehistoric fish. These once native species disappeared from Caddo Lake around 1977. After 15 years of scientific work and collaboration between Caddo Lake Institute, scientists, partners and the government, a “flows regime” has been put in place that mimics mother nature, allowing the return of our continent’s oldest surviving species.
